Amazon Elastic VMware Service Is Now in Public Preview

By BJ Schwein |

AWS recently announced the public preview of Amazon Elastic VMware Service (Amazon EVS), marking a significant step toward providing a fully operational, first-party VMware service within the AWS cloud. This development is particularly important for businesses that have built their infrastructure on VMware and are looking for a streamlined path to cloud migration without the complexity of re-architecting their existing workloads.

Amazon EVS allows organizations to run VMware Cloud Foundation directly on dedicated Amazon EC2 bare metal instances, giving them the ability to use familiar VMware tools like vSphere, vSAN, and NSX while taking advantage of AWS's global infrastructure, scalability, and breadth of services. This hybrid approach is designed to reduce the friction typically associated with migrating VMware-based environments to the cloud, enabling teams to maintain operational continuity during the transition.

For enterprises already invested in VMware, this public preview represents an opportunity to evaluate how Amazon EVS can fit into their cloud strategy. Pantera Digital's managed services team can help organizations assess their readiness, plan their migration, and ensure a smooth transition to this new service offering as it moves toward general availability.
